Daraga, Albay: Mayon Volcano and the Cagsawa Ruins
Cagsawa Ruins is probably one of the most famous tourist spots apart from Mayon Volcano itself in Bicol region. This historical park is located in Daraga, a southwest town in the province of Albay. The place was already teeming with tourists when we got there despite the scorching heat of the midday sun but that didn't stop us from walking around and taking pictures.
There used to be a Catholic church in the area that got destroyed when Mayon Volcano erupted in 1814, leaving behind 1,200 residents dead and just the belfry standing which today is now under the supervision of the National Museum of the Philippines. The place reminded me so much of the Old Church Ruins (Guiob Church) in Camiguin which also got destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Hibok-Hibok.

Around the vicinity of the ruins were different souvenir shops and snack houses where you'll see scores of stores selling native bags, pili nuts and other local delicacies, keychains, ref magnets, and those offering packaged tours (such as the epic ATV adventure).
No wonder Mayon Volcano captured the hearts of many --- it really is a sight to behold! :)
How to Get There
When we went to Bicol, we traveled like the locals and getting to Cagsawa Ruins was easy peasy. From Legazpi City, we took a Camalig-bound jeepney and dropped off at the intersection by the highway going to Cagsawa in Barangay Busay, Daraga. I am sure you wouldn't miss this intersection as there is a huge signage on the right side of the road. From the intersection, we then rode a tricycle to the historical sight.
